Grant Request

TurningWheels for Kids is considering bicycle grant requests from charities and individuals serving underprivileged children for the 2009 holiday giving season. We are also accepting bicycle grant requests from groups promoting health and wellness in health challenged and disabled children. Please review the following information for details on how to submit your application.

Application Process:

Potential grantees need to submit an application that outlines their organization and project plan as well as specify the desired and expected measurable outcomes of the proposed program, project or service.

The applications will be reviewed and evaluated by members of the TurningWheels For Kids Executive Board. Grantees will be notified by early November for the December holiday giving campaign. For question contact Brent Mardesich

Grant Prerequisites:

  • Must subside in or serve children in the Santa Clara County area. Additional requests from counties within close proximity to Santa Clara County will also be considered but grant allotments are limited in counties outside of this jurisdiction.
  • Charities applying for bicycle grants must serve underprivileged, impoverished, disabled or health challenged children ranging in age from 2-17. The maximum size of bicycles provided is 26 inches. In addition to larger grants for 501(c)(3) charities, personal grants will be reviewed on an individual basis.
  • TurningWheels focuses primarily on providing bikes to children during the holiday season. Priority will be given to charities with events in place for the holiday season such as a toy drive or other giving campaign event celebrating the season. On a smaller scale, TurningWheels also sponsors charities and individuals in year round giving campaigns, these applications will also be reviewed on a case by case basis and granted if the need is deemed appropriate.
  • Charities and individuals applying for bicycle grants must have the capability to receive and transport their allotted bikes to their own storage location in early December from our annual assembly day. Pick-up schedules will be provided to each grantee in mid November.
  • Grantees will be required to facilitate a training class to all bike recipients regarding the proper and safe use of bicycles and bicycle helmets. Printed materials and videotapes will be provided by TurningWheels for Kids upon bike delivery.
  • Grantees may be asked to provide some form of measurement (i.e. surveys and/or recipient follow up) within three weeks of the Bike Build you will be instructed on specifics upon notification of grant.
  • Application cycle for the 2009 holiday giving season closes on November 15, 2009.
